what you call "Oi Suomi" is now named "Finlandia hymn" and it was originally part of the symphonic poem "Finlandia" (Op. 26, kind "Finlandia Op. 26" in the find), composed by our national composer Jean Sibelius in 1899-1900 right in the middle of the first of two "Times of oppression", that is Russification of Finland, as an act of defiance. The reason it's so dear to us are the lyrics (own translation, sry if the lyrics create no sense to you): "Oh, Finland, look at the dawn of Your day threat of the Night has been repelled. And the skylark of morning is singing like Heaven itself were sounding. The might of the Night is overcome by the morning It's the dawn of Your day, oh land of birth. Oh, rise Finland, raise high your head decorated by nice memories. Oh rise Finland, you have shown to the globe that you have repelled slavery. And that you didn't yield to oppression Your morning has begun, oh land of birth."
we have english as 3rd language in finland
