Today's video is other #FromTheClinic. It's very common for girls to come and see me for the first time after finishing with the contraceptive pill, experiencing their first breakout in years and wonder if there's any idea to combat it without going back to the pill. Luckily there are lots of options so don't despair!

What products can my 20 yr old son use to support his cystic acne? He was on the powerful prescription from the dermatologist and looked much better but it seems to be returning. Any tip please and what skin routine can I obtain him on?
If your struggling with acne after coming off the pill, then you really need to spend some time balancing your hormones naturally. A nice skin care routine can only go so far, you really need to tackle the trouble internally. Cutting out diary and sugar would definitely be a nice run :)
Hi Dr Sam, I’m not currently on any form of contraception but wondered what you advise is the finest and ‘safest’ in terms of not altering hormones too much or causing spots/weight gain? Obviously there’s the option of condoms (but expensive) and I’ve heard the copper coil is nice? I have been on microgynan in the past to boost my oestrogen lvls - I developed secondary amenorrhea when I was exercising too much and not refuelling enough. It worked and brought my regular cycle back but literally sent me crazy in terms of mood swings and anxiety so I’m quite afraid of trying any another pill. I developed acne for the first time too when coming off it (specifically around my jawline and lower third of my face.) Duac gel cleared it up no end so I highly suggest that to anyone suffering with whiteheads and blackheads.
Please do a PCOS and acne video! That would be a major life saver cause my confidence has been dying :(
Unrelated question; you recommended vichy dermablend as a foundation. Actually there is also vichy dermablend 3d. Which one is better? And is it okey to use the loose powder from the vichy dermablend range?
I'd like to know your thoughts on progesterone only contraceptives and whether you trust they are linked to acne
I’ve never seen a dermatologist prescribe spironolactone for acne. Not licensed in uk, no?
I'm currently on my second month of using lymocyclone and have heard of using the spirolutona for hormonal acne. The lymocyclone isn't working yet so will mention this the next time I see my doctor.
You're just brilliant!!!
